As a local peculiarity, Berlin citizens tend to ignore the official names of landmarks by giving them more affectionate terms. This gold-plated Statue of Victory, errected in the early 1900s, was named Goldelse ("golden Else"), Else being a traditional, German name suggesting the character of a homemaker instead of a victorious warrior. I love the statue and didn't hesitate to embed it in a golden sunset...
