This memorial is made of two blades of a US Army helicopter, which was used to transport Berlin
citizens daily between the main city and their exclave, a small parcel that was cut off and completely
surrounded by the Berlin wall until the East gave in and opened up a small corridor to allow those few
hundred citizens to go shop and attend school. One of the more quirky effects of the German splitting, and
a stark reminder of the initial "no exceptions" policy of Eastern Germany and the "we'll support our allies no
matter how much it costs" policy of the American Sector in West Berlin.
